I'm going to make a concerted effort to eat better this year, with the aim being to really enhance the training I can do prior to the Granfondo Pantani this June. Has anyone out there done anything similar?

I'm going to be trying to eat healthily, too, as I'm considering taking on another marathon.

How far is this cycle, Adi? It sounds like an extreme one for some reason...

It's 175km over some of the toughest mountains in the Dolomites

Lance Armstrong described the Mortirolo as the toughest he'd ever ridden.

I worked out that losing 2kg would result scaling the two biggest climbs around 10minutes faster, assuming I produce the same power in my legs.

Seriously... so what kind of diet have you got in mind? I would have thought you don't have a great deal to lose...

I am also interested in the kind of the diet you are going to follow. You have the good plans to accomplish. Eating healthy food will be adored by your organism, I think Very Happy

My thing is that when I used to swim I was 58kg. Now I'm around 61kg, so there is weight to be lost. I'm thinking of getting a body fat scale to get a rough idea of whether the excess weight is fat or muscle.

As for the diet, it's mainly cutting out the junk. So for instance rather than having cake I'm nibbling on fruit or nuts during the day. Drinking more water, and generally trying to get my carbs via slow burning good stuff rather than sugary quick release energy. Having more freshly cooked meals rather than ready meals, that kind of thing.

The girlfriend is the inspiration as she eats a whole lot of stuff but it's mainly fruit & veg, good healthy things. She doesn't eat much that's bad.

Kind of. But it's not the real thing, is it?

I once owned two huge boxes of malt loaves, each with something like 24 in them, because Soreen sponsored me on one of my trips to Greenland... there you go, you learn something new every day. Laughing
