This Sunday the West Coast Eagles are off to play Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium. This venue is not a happy hunting ground for the club. Since their inception in 1987 the Eagles have not won many games there.
Port Adelaide are a very strong side. They have finished on or near the top of the ladder in the last 2 seasons.
Two of the Eagles young forwards - Hansen and McDougald are just getting into some form but are now injured and will not travel.
As always the depth of the squad counts. The club has to win every game from now on to get into the finals.
Will discuss the finals/prospects of the top 4 clubs next time.

Last time we were here the Eagles were to play Port Adelaide in Adelaide.
The Eagles were beaten by the Power after bad kicking for goal = 9.23. They may have won with better kicking for goal.

The following week they thrashed the Western Bulldogs in Perth at Subiaco.

On Sunday Aug 6 they flew to Brisbane to play the reigning AFL Premiers -Brisbane Lions. Playing a high standard game they continued their winning streak against the Lions.

Last Sunday back home at Subiaco they had a 62 point win over Carlton who are still rebuilding.

The record for the year now stands 11W 9L. Currently they are out of the final 8 on percentage only. The club has won 6 out of its last 7 games.

This week is the big blockbuster game against Fremantle Dockers. This game sold out 3 wks ago. Perth needs a bigger stadium now of at least 55,000 to 60, 000 capacity.
There are 4 clubs incl the weagles with 44 points on the ladder.

The Eagles will HAVE to win their final 2 games to get into to the finals.
The teams structure is starting to take shape for the future. 4 of their rookie players have won the AFL emerging players awards this season.

The club is having a good run - They beat the Fremantle Dockers last sunday at home quite easily. Some of the kids (18 year olds) in the team are really going well.
We are now 11W and 10L and are 8th on the ladder for the season with one game to go before the finals.

Tomorrow afternoon at home at 2.00 pm WST we play the Melbourne Demons. The teams destiny is now in the players hands.
If we win and other results go our way the club will finish 6th and we may get a home final the following week.
To sum up the Eagles could finish anywhere from 6th to 9th and may possibly end up playing in Sydney against the Sydeney Swans at the huge Stadium Australia ground where the 2000 Olympics were held.

After a slow start to the season the team has finished with a rush. They are playing very confident attacking football with a vastly improved defence. They have the best midfield group in the comp at the moment.
Go Eagles!

The West Coast Eagles beat Melbourne last Sat in a sometimes scrappy game at home at Subiaco.
The first half was a very ball on ground game.
The Eagles got into gear in the 3rd quarter and pulled away from the Demons and finished with a good last quarter.
Final Score West Coast - 15.17 107 beat Melbourne 10.7 67.
The club finished 7th on the ladder. This is the 3rd year in a row under coach John Worsfold that they have made the finals.
The club had a good end to the home and away season winning 8 out of their last 9 games.

We will be flying to Sydney next Sat to play Sydney Swans who finished 6th. The game will be played at Stadium Australia the site of 2000 Olympics. A crowd of 60,000 is expected.
The Eagles have a tough schedule to get to the Grand Final. No club so far has ever won the flag from outside of the top 4.

Port Adelaide finished on top for 3rd year in a row. Unlike the Premier League there is no award for finishing on top in the AFL. The top club is rewarded with a favourable draw in the finals IF they win their matches.

Other games in the finals this weekend
Port Adelaide V Geelong in Adelaide
Brisbane v St Kilda in Brisbane
Melbourne v Essendon in Melbourne

FINAL LADDER FOR AFL 2004 home and away season
Port Adelaide
Bris Lions
St Kilda
Geelong
Melbourne
Sydney
West Coast
Essendon

Fremantle
Kangaroos
Carlton
Adelaide
Collingwood
W. Bulldogs
Hawthorn
Richmond

During the week the AFL reported that crowd attendances in 2004 for the 22 match home and away season totalled 5,903,00 million the third highest on record.
These figures are numbers other sports worldwide can only dream of.

Don't forget you can start a new thread, Eagles1...! Since we created a new forum for Aussie Rules a while back, you've still just posted in the one thread we started before we had the forum! Please use the 'new topic' to start off new discussions...

Thanks

Aaron

totally agree, rugby is very monotonous, very predictable. But with AFL, u dont know which way the ball wil bounce when it is in a contest also the excitement factor. It better than both rugby league and union. and also american football.

The problem with any code which uses hands as a key part of the game (ie non-soccer), is that the game becomes wild. There is no other way to stop someone with the ball in their hands on a football field (apart from basketball where the rules are very stringent) without smashing someone brutally.

It's sort of wrestling with a ball and always quite violent. But if you think violence is OK...

PS. The most violent code is American football, is it any wonder they are the most violent nation?

Do you see many group that would increase such a forum? My gut thought is that it's got a comfortable tailing to confirm a facility of its own, but I don't poverty to create it if it's not going to ask off... would revalue your input on that.
