I haven't read the article but I thought muscle memory was an already known phenomenon.

I think it's slightly different, although may be wrong. Muscle memory looks to be more the motor function, so Federer for instance will be able to play his shots without thinking because he has done them so often.

The Wired article seems to suggest that if you've been fit before that muscles will remember how to get like that again. Slightly different.

It makes sense, of course, but this isn't such a big relief, because if we want that our muscles have memory, we still have to work hard once...
